A miniature corner of forest under glass: each living vase is a terrarium, a small self-sustaining ecosystem where living plants grow. It brings a touch of nature into the home, without the constraints of gardening.

Behind Vases Vivants is Guillaume Goulet, who holds a diploma in horticulture from the CFAM in Mirabel and composes his terrariums in his workshop in the Rosemont district of Montréal, with a local team. He combines boreal mosses, ferns, carnivorous plants, orchids or tropical plants, and each creation is unique.

Format: available in a small or medium size. The plants and decor vary from one vase to another.

Materials: clear glass vase, substrate, living plants and natural elements such as wood. According to Vases Vivants, its vases are bioactive: springtails, tiny arthropods that stay inside the vase, and activated charcoal help keep the ecosystem healthy.

Care: do not leave the vase in its box for more than 24 hours. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from south-facing windowsills, ideally with 8 to 10 hours of light a day. Mist it with rainwater, filtered or distilled water, avoiding tap water: 1 to 2 mistings a month in winter and 1 misting a week in summer, depending on ambient conditions. The substrate should never be completely dry; if the moss turns pale or whitish, it is time to water. Remove dead leaves, trim plants that become too invasive and clean the glass walls as needed.

Origin: composed in the Vases Vivants workshop, in the Rosemont district of Montréal.
